Random slop

by eeg and chreese

Some unwelcome patterns from the clanker today:

It keeps introducing small bugs due to bad ordering of logic. This is probably the third or fourth time it introduced a bug that I then told it to fix, and its answer was, “Oh we'd never reach the code we needed to because the logic is out of order.” That's a weird one that makes me pretty uneasy if I was depending on the damn thing for anything important.

It changes random shit pointlessly. While rewriting a recent feature, it slopped out some pointless refactoring (a variable declaration was replaced by inlining the value). Sure, that might be good in some cases, but it didn't really need to be done for what I was asking. This is one of those times when you remember it's just making shit up.

It rarely re-uses code it wrote. Maybe once or twice, it implemented something intelligently. I try to logically build up over steps to help it along. But still, it tends toward pooping out piles of text over re-using what's already there. I imagine that's because of memory, context window, etc. And the fact that it's a dumb robot.

Anyway. Out of tokens! Going for a walk now, bye bye!
